Today Croatia celebrates Victory & Homeland Thanksgiving Day

Today the Day of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving and the Day of Croatian Veterans are celebrated throughout the Republic of Croatia.

The beginning of the military-police operation Storm and the liberation of Knin, which took place in 1995, will be celebrated with appropriate ceremonies and remembrance of the veterans who laid their lives on the altar of the Homeland.

During the storm along with Operation Flash which was crucial for the end of the Homeland War, about two hundred thousand Croatian soldiers liberated more than ten thousand square kilometers of the occupied area, which ended the bloody war.

After Operation Storm, only eastern Slavonia remained occupied and was returned by peaceful reintegration without military action. The storm began at dawn on August 4 and lasted only 84 hours, and about 18.4 percent of the total area of Croatia was cleared.

On 05.08.1995. the citizens of Croatia welcomed the day that fulfilled the Croatian Millennium Dream, and the Croatian soldier won independence and freedom.

On Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day, every Croat should remember those who fought for freedom, those who gave Croatia the most valuable thing and a man who gave life for his homeland.

Today every Croat needs proudly display the Croatian flag on his/her home and celebrate Victory Day, Homeland Thanksgiving and Croatian Veterans Day.

'Today every Croat needs proudly display the Croatian flag on his/her home and celebrate Victory Day, Homeland Thanksgiving and Croatian Veterans Day.'
No every Croatian need not no more than I or any other Irish person are obliged to slap up a tricolour for the commemorations of the Easter Rising etc. This holds no matter what, honestly, flag-waving language like 'altar of the Homeland,' or 'most valuable thing and a man who gave life for his homeland,' is deployed to describe past events of national history. What every Croatian can do is choose for themselves what it means to them.
Incidentally, those aren't Croatian soldiers melded into the Croatian flag there but are US paratroopers from the 101st Airborne Division in WWII uniform and arms, not real paratroopers mind but the actors playing said paratroopers in the HBO series Band of Brothers.
